Message anecodtally maybe, but MSRP's start well over $100k, and the typical discount is nowhere near 20%....I suppose it depends heavily on what market you live in. South Florida? zero chance

Not saying it doesnt happen, just saying it certainly is not representative. Hit up a dealer in West Virginia maybe.

The main problem IMHO with the GTR is another Nissan marketing failure. Here you have a car that may be a slam dunk on paper when it comes to performance DATA to price ratio, however that performance level is way beyond what any sane person would ever come close to seeing during typical ownership. There are many cars that offer less performance at lower prices and the ceilings are still way beyond what the typical ownership experience is ever going to approach.

So what you have is a $100k car with ZERO options apart from an absurdly expensive interior COLOR option. Nothing to personalize the car. No performance options. No comfort options, nothing. It would appear Nissan can only afford to make this car one way and ride the hype to profit for as long as they can. Nissan's saving grace here is that no other japanese automaker is even thinking about horning in on this market segment. If Nissan was fielding the GTR in the same climate that the Z32 had to operate in, with competitors from Toyota, Mazda, and Mitsubishi, I wonder if the GTR would have lasted this long, they surely have rolled out the red carpet for asian competitors to clobber them, but none seem too keen to waltz into the marketplace....may very well be a statement in itself of the state of affairs in the japanese auto-manufacturing business....meaning they simply can't afford to make anything other than high sales volume transportation appliances or luxury cars with high margins.

There are so many other options available at that price range that offer someone with $100k to spend on a toy actual ways to make the toy feel like it is theirs that they aren't going to be swayed from the european brands for a cookie cutter nissan, they really could not care less about the performance difference, since they'll never appreciate it off a track.

I'm trying to figure out why the price of the GTR has climbed from $85k back in 2009, to $100k+ when the dollar is up around the 15 year high-water mark??

it's like Nissan intentionally fucks up great ideas, or they simply as an organization are incapable of capitalizing on them effectively. The GTR from every measureable standpoint is one of the most awesome cars ever built, but why does Nissan do such an awful job selling it? It's like they want to take the legs out of the sales figures.
